Final Model: Link stools

Branding of the final model based on advertisement for the event is use of the main logo , the title in white on a red background added to the legs in the square lock in folds or in opposite corners on seat section. Final presentation format is set on main poster of entrance for the 2009 exhibition. I am very happy with the final result and have created the original concept adapted to create a more developed unique idea.

Final Xnita Model: Link Stool

The final concept of the stool idea has been edited and adapted into a three individual stool seats that can be linked together to form one bench. This allows the concept of the stool/bench for meeting area at salone satellite to be extended or used as individual seating, more flexible than the original 'L' shaped bench.

This piece also folds and locks together from one piece rather t
han interlocking with the 'slot system. I began by planning and measuring and working out proportions and sufficient
support for each stool before
I looked at a link system. The initial trials with the thinner practice piece did end up by trial 3 being strong enou
gh. Once I began with Xnita it was a challenge getting the cut sides and sections correct with a successful lock and slot system to link.

Once I began trialing with Xnita I realised that there also needed to be a locking system for the side flaps and lock into the side legs, once this was created the strength of the individual piece was strong enough to hold weight and not be hesitate when sitting. Then the weight test was put into practice by having three different weight people sit on the three stools while linked and it worked!!!

1:1 Model trial: Two seater stool

This was a locking system trial down in class to generate ideas of how to lock my concepts together has that has been where I have been struggling the most, I think I will be able to adapt this and apply to one of my concepts.

Here is my 1:1 model, it is still incorporating the concept of a two in one seat with an 'L' shape. It did hold me but was not very sturdy but think the strong Xnita board will hold, I am worried though it is not creative enough in its form??

1:1 Mock up trial Bench

I developed the three concepts further with the idea of a two in one seat in developing a collapsable bench that can be moved around to a private area for meetings. I then attempting to do a one to one mock up, however I have still not mastered a locking systems, although I could sit on it and it did hold my weight, it was about to break as there is currently no locking systems in there. This needs to be developed with perhaps another fold and the triangulation slotting into one of the sides. Still being developed.

Three Concepts Developed

Research into 'Two in one" chair concepts, as I am aiming to design a two in one chair that can be added to the Salone Satellite as a portable meeting option between young designers and potential employees, to create a private area for discussions within large exhibition space.

Here are three concepts revolving around my idea of a two in one chair with a connecting table in two concepts. The first is a compact box with a smaller bench stool inside to determine heir-achy and two seating options which can be easily picked up and moved to find
private space. The second is attempting to insert a curve into the design with a common bench linking the chairs and adding structural support. The third idea is a box concept which out fold two three sided stools with a diagonal triangulation for support and a handle for the box which inserts into each stool creating a bench.
